Overall Requirements For Entry Into A Training Program
· All owners entering dogs into the training program must provide a list of up-to-date vaccinations.
· All dogs must be on a heartworm medication and a preventative flea/tick medication.
· Birds are not included in the training program price but will be used during the training
(prices range from $4-$7/bird depending on the type used). A budget for birds will be a
minimum of $100/month.
· All veterinary expenses are the responsibility of the dog’s owner.
· The owner will receive reports weekly (or more often) on the dog’s progress. Photos will also be
provided to display the training progress.
Basic Puppy Obedience Program ($125/week; minimum of 4 weeks)
· Introduction to game birds
· Introduction to gun fire
· E-collar conditioning
· Whistle commands introduced
· Introduction to kennel in back of vehicle
· Basic obedience commands (sit, come, heel)
· On-leash behavior
· Off-leash behavior
· Land retrieving work (40-50 yard marked retrieves)
· Single and double marked land retrieves
· Water retrieving work (40-50 yard marked water retrieves)
· Single and double marked water retrieves
Puppies will be eligible for this program when they are 12-16 weeks of age. The program is expected to last 2-3 months (depending on the dog and its progress). A puppy that has completed the program will be ready to start in real hunting situations but will not be a finished gun dog. If the dog is over 1 year of age the price is $125 per week.
Advanced Dog Training Program ($125/week; minimum of 4 weeks)
· Reinforce and expand on all basic obedience commands
· Steadying on all marked retrieves with release upon handler’s command
· Force fetch
· “Whoa” breaking
· Steady to wing and shot
· Advanced double and triple marked retrieves on land and water (100 yards)
· Hand signals
· Blind retrieves (100 yards)
Dogs should be at least 6-7 months old to enter this program. Dogs that complete this training will be able to enter the field and hunt as a finished gun dog. Depending on the dog’s age, experience may still be needed in an actual hunting field but the dog will have all the skills to be a productive and successful hunter. The program will vary in length depending upon what aspects the owner wishes to pursue and the ability of the dog. The typical length of training is 3-4 months.
