WELCOME to Prairie Point Kennels. Our goal as an owner of Pointing Labs is to produce exceptional bird dogs as well as members of the family. The hunting fields and duck blinds are our final testing place to see if a dog has desirable traits that we feel are worthy of instituting into our breeding program. All the Pointing Labs in our kennel have met the standards of what I expect from a hunting dog and I feel that they all possess attributes that can improve the breed.
I have been hunting behind Pointing Labs for 14 years now. I chose to hunt behind Pointing Labrador Retrievers because they are one of the most versatile hunting dogs available. Labrador Retrievers are a highly intelligent breed of dogs that is very biddable in the training process. When you mix that with the natural pointing ability that is found in these dogs’ genetics, you get the perfect hunting companion.
Looks & Temperament are also a high priority of our breeding program. Great care was taken in the acquisition of our Pointing Labs and we assume that you, the dog buyer, will also be looking for a great looking, high quality hunting dogs. We like are dogs to be high drive hunters, yet be able to turn it off when not in the field.
I am very much an amateur trainer, but I have trained all my labs myself. I hunt mainly pheasants in the upland field. I provide a guide service with my dogs for pheasant hunting and spring snow goose hunting. I also hunt duck, geese, and pheasant around home in Northwest, Iowa. My pointing labs see as many, if not more birds than most other dogs around given my location and access to private hunting land with an excellent population of wild birds.
Finding the right hunting dog can be a difficult process and we understand that you, the buyer, may have many questions to ask about your puppy. Please feel free to email or phone with any questions you might have on Pointing Labs or any other questions.
